THEATRE WITHOUT COMPROMISE
Dedicated to new, exciting, and innovative theatrical works of the highest quality, we provide a space where writers, performers, and an audience can come together in a spirit of community and collaboration to expand our understanding of what is possible in the theatre. We also offer educational programs and support for artist development for Southwestern Virginia. By working in concert with other arts organizations, we will strive to make Roanoke a nationally recognized ignition point for new play development.

Anna Nichols
Technical Production Assistant

Anna Nichols comes to Studio Roanoke as a Technical Production Assistant, which includes such activities as set building and painting, props work, fill-in stage manager, and just about anything else. Anna holds a Bachelor’s from Emory & Henry where she majored in Theatrical Production and Design with an emphasis in lighting and did quite a bit of study in studio arts. She interned at Barter Theatre in 2009 in the electrical department, and interned with Bandit Lites during July of 2008 and October of 2009.

What do you like about the technical side of theatre?

Instant gratification! I love working with my hands, getting covered in sawdust and paint, and being able to stand back at the end of the day and see the progress I’ve made. I really love to design because there is so much creativity involved. Lighting is so interesting to me because it can be striking or subtle and still really affect the way an audience feels about a scene.

If you could choose any play at any theatre, what would you most like to work on?

I’d like to work on any kind of modern or abstract piece -- anything that would let me use really intense colors and interesting patterns and textures. I think I’d have the most fun with dance pieces and concerts.

What do you hope people say about you?

That I’m interesting, creative and fun to work with. Maybe even talented!

What do you think people say about you?

That I like wombats and have too much energy.
